Summary

A study comparing amphibian and reptile diversity between disturbed (corn fields) and undisturbed (tropical deciduous forest) environments in Salvatierra, Guanajuato, Mexico, found that taxonomic distinctness was higher in undisturbed habitats, particularly in the Urireo locality. The research recorded 19 species (4 amphibians and 15 reptiles), with greater diversity observed in tropical deciduous forests than in corn fields. Seven of these species are protected under NOM-059-SEMARNAT-2010, highlighting their conservation significance. The findings suggest that long-term studies incorporating natural history traits could enhance herpetofauna conservation strategies in disturbed landscapes.
