Summary
Volunteer tourism in Cusco, Peru, is shaped by complex moral landscapes formed through interactions among human and non-human actors. This study introduces assemblage theory as a framework to analyze volunteer tourism development, revealing it as a dynamic, relational process influenced by geopolitical discourses, historical contexts, and socio-economic factors. By treating volunteer tourism as an assemblage, the research provides deeper insights into its unequal and mobile nature, challenging conventional planning approaches. The findings underscore the need for more inclusive strategies in tourism policy that account for these multifaceted dynamics.
