Summary

New research reveals that the Leaning Tower of Pisa's resilience to seismic events, including strong tremors since medieval times, is significantly influenced by soil-structure interaction. Unlike previous studies focusing on static stability, this investigation employs dynamic analysis techniques such as historical seismicity review, dynamic identification, and site response analysis to assess the tower's behavior under seismic forces. The study, conducted from 2014 onwards, highlights the critical role of soil-structure interaction in mitigating seismic damage, providing insights that could inform future conservation efforts for this UNESCO World Heritage Site.
