Summary
A comprehensive hydrogeological model for the North Sea island of Föhr, part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site Wadden Sea, reveals critical insights into freshwater distribution and vulnerability to global change. The study integrates geophysical surveys—including airborne transient electromagnetic (EM) and 2D reflection seismic measurements—with geological borehole data to map subsurface resistivity and identify buried valleys and glaciotectonic structures. This model was used to simulate future impacts of sea level rise and increased precipitation, predicting significant changes in freshwater distribution by 2100. The findings highlight the importance of integrated geophysical methods for understanding coastal aquifers and their resilience to environmental pressures.
