Summary
This research reveals that women played a pivotal role in the Bauhaus movement, challenging traditional gender norms and contributing significantly to its architectural and design achievements. Despite initial segregation into textile workshops—often seen as 'feminine' domains—they progressively accessed architecture studies, culminating in diplomas and professional practice. The study demonstrates their work's complexity, comparable to male peers, and highlights how structural changes, such as the unification of construction and interior design under Mies van der Rohe, facilitated this progression. It also underscores the Bauhaus community’s inclusive ethos, where women were neither discriminated against nor perceived as trailblazers for others; instead, they integrated seamlessly into a shared vision of social justice and innovation.
