Summary
Small towns within the Fertő/Neusiedlersee Cultural Landscape, a transboundary UNESCO World Heritage Site shared by Hungary and Austria, play a pivotal role in regional development through collaboration on nature conservation, cultural heritage preservation, and tourism. Over the past 25 years, Hungarian and Austrian settlements have established varying levels of cooperation to enhance these aspects, demonstrating the potential for small towns to drive sustainable ecoregion management. The study highlights the importance of strengthening existing partnerships to maintain and further develop these initiatives, offering practical suggestions for continued cooperation.
