Summary
A case study of Santiago de Compostela's urban development (1988–1999) reveals how the integration of the Centro Gallego de Arte Contemporáneo into Bonaval, designed by Álvaro Siza and Isabel Aguirre, transformed periurban public space through strategic reordering. The project demonstrates that successful urban renewal requires deep contextual understanding—balancing historical, topographical, and environmental layers—to enhance civic quality. By analyzing processes of interaction and continuity with place, the study highlights how such interventions can reconcile temporalities to create cohesive, adaptable public spaces.
