Summary

A study of twenty-two petitions from the Ottoman Imperial Archives reveals how supervisors and local authorities exploited the Abū Madyan waqf in early 20th-century Jerusalem, leading to its gradual disintegration. The analysis highlights systemic mismanagement, embezzlement, and violations of waqf conditions, while also mapping the complex networks between Maghribī residents, mutawallīs, qāḍīs, and Ottoman officials that facilitated property confiscations for personal or collective gain.
