Summary
Square Tulou buildings, such as Zhenyang Tulou in Nanjiang Village, Fujian, demonstrate superior thermal performance compared to modern brick houses, offering a more stable and comfortable indoor environment. This study quantifies these advantages through rigorous measurement of temperature, humidity, and other environmental parameters, revealing that traditional Tulou structures maintain cooler and more stable conditions, particularly during hot and humid periods. However, it also identifies key defects in the thermal performance of wooden walls and floors, proposing targeted improvement measures to enhance energy efficiency without compromising architectural integrity. These findings provide actionable insights for the preservation and adaptive reuse of Tulou buildings, balancing modern needs with heritage conservation.
