Summary
Redevelopment of Saint Petersburg's historic centre, built as intricate networks to foster trade and social interaction, faces challenges due to its confined layouts, which deter modern commercial developers. This study proposes five distinct types of historic urban areas based on functionality, development regularity, and perimeters, offering tailored redevelopment strategies for each. By comparing Saint Petersburg with other European cities like Paris, Versailles, Stockholm, Budapest, and Berlin, the research aims to address ongoing decay, piecemeal reconstruction, and lack of planning strategy through a systematic approach.
