Summary

Teotihuacan, often viewed as a state without writing, possesses a distinct logophonetic script with clear links to other Mesoamerican systems. This study identifies the corpus, media, and geographical distribution of Teotihuacan writing, pinpointing its heartland in central Mexico while noting its presence across Mesoamerica. The research analyzes graphic characteristics, sign inventory, and temporal distribution, revealing similarities to established writing systems. By synthesizing historical work and evaluating candidate languages, the study advances understanding of Teotihuacan's linguistic and cultural complexity.
