Summary

Residents of northern Portugal's historic and natural sites generally support tourism despite concerns over its negative impacts. A comparative study of Porto, Guimarães, and Peneda-Gerês National Park revealed that while tourism brings economic benefits, it also triggers antagonistic feelings due to overcrowding, cultural changes, and infrastructure strain in smaller town centers and natural areas. The research used a questionnaire-based survey to assess residents' perceptions, highlighting the complex relationship between tourism development and local communities.
