Summary

Research reveals significant heterogeneity in the mantle source beneath Kharchinsky and Zarechny volcanoes, part of Kamchatka's UNESCO World Heritage-listed volcanic landscape. The study identifies distinct magma evolution pathways linked to peridotite and pyroxenite sources, with evidence from high-Mg olivine phenocrysts showing elevated NiO contents and Fe/Mn ratios. These findings suggest the interaction between mantle-wedge peridotites and subducted oceanic crust melts at the junction of the Kurile–Kamchatka and Aleutian subduction zones. The analysis combines geochemical data from 55 rock samples and over 900 mineral analyses, highlighting unique magmatic processes in this region.
