Summary
A reassessment of the interaction between Cahokia and Moundville, two significant Mississippian centers, finds minimal evidence of direct contact despite the presence of exotic artifacts and architectural similarities. While rare Mill Creek chert bifaces, a Missouri flint clay effigy pipe, sheet copper objects, and a 'greathouse' built in a potentially Cahokian style were identified, there is no conclusive proof of Cahokian involvement in Moundville's emergence or development. This update builds on previous research by incorporating recent findings from the earliest period at Moundville.
