Summary

A groundbreaking tree-ring-based study reveals that spring precipitation patterns in the Sikhote-Alin mountain range, Russian Far East, are significantly influenced by Pacific Ocean dynamics and global climate oscillations. The research identifies common wet and dry years across three regions (southern, central, and northwestern) spanning 1602–2013, with notable periods of 3-, 15-, and 60-years linked to El Niño–Southern Oscillation and Pacific Decadal Oscillation. Korean pine tree rings were used to reconstruct precipitation data, highlighting the transition from continental to oceanic air currents as a critical factor for tree growth. The findings underscore the Pacific Ocean's dominant role in shaping regional precipitation, offering new insights into long-term climate variability.
