Summary
A rare photographic record of the Asiatic Brush-tailed Porcupine (Atherurus macrourus) was captured during a camera-trap survey in Manas National Park, Assam, India. This finding is significant as it contributes to the limited documentation of this lesser-known and declining mammal in southern and southeastern Asia. The study highlights the importance of post-conflict conservation efforts, particularly after nearly two decades (1990–2010) of ethno-political conflict that hindered such initiatives in Manas National Park. The survey, originally conducted to monitor Clouded Leopard populations, provides valuable data for informed conservation strategies and underscores the need for continued research in this UNESCO World Heritage Site.
