Summary
The Honghe Hani Rice Terraces, a UNESCO World Heritage Site inscribed in 2013, represent a unique cultural landscape shaped by the Hani people's millennia-old rice farming traditions. This study reveals that the terraces' spectacular spatial structure—integrating forest, water, and village systems—is sustained by a harmonious blend of physical factors and deep-rooted cultural practices, including land-use management and spiritual values. The research highlights how this landscape, now a global attraction for scholars and tourists, faces challenges from modern tourism and development, raising critical questions about its long-term preservation.
