Summary
A seismic reflection study on eastern Anticosti Island, Quebec, has identified the southern extension of the Mesoproterozoic Wakeham Group and Robe-Noire mafic sills, previously exposed only along the north shore of the Gulf of St. Lawrence. The research used hydrocarbon-targeted seismic data to image subparallel reflections below the Paleozoic St. Lawrence Platform, revealing a reflective unit characterized by broad open folds, subparallel markers, and east-northeast-dipping faults. This discovery extends geological understanding of the eastern Grenville Province's basement structure, providing new insights into the region's tectonic history.
