Summary
Archaeological excavations at the Hellenistic-Roman Agora of Nea Paphos, led by Jagiellonian University from 2011 to 2019, uncovered a significant collection of 480 Hellenistic coins and coin flans. The majority (67%) were Ptolemaic issues, with notable contributions from Cypriot bronzes (20.5%), Syro-Palestinian regions (Seleucid, Hasmonean rulers - over 6%), Macedonian-Antigonid issues (3.8%), and other regions including the south-eastern Aegean and Asia Minor (1.6%). This preliminary analysis provides insights into the chronology and structure of economic activity during the Hellenistic period in Nea Paphos, building upon earlier research conducted by Kyriakos Nicolaou in the late 1960s and 1970s.
