Summary

A new species of Collembola, Archisotoma jariani, has been discovered from the intertidal sand of Atol das Rocas, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and oceanic atoll off Brazil. This marks the first record of this genus in the region, expanding its known distribution and habitat range. The species belongs to the besselsi group, characterized by small size, specific tibial spurs, maxillary head structure, and trichobothria arrangement on abdominal segment VI. The study provides a taxonomic key for all Brazilian Archisotoma species, contributing to biodiversity documentation in this unique marine environment.
