Summary
Heritage buildings in Melaka and George Town, Malaysia's UNESCO World Heritage Cities, are increasingly being adaptively reused as hotels, yet this practice often lacks proper conservation concepts. A study identified 14 such heritage hotels and surveyed their owners or managers to assess current adaptive reuse approaches. Findings revealed significant gaps in conservation methods, highlighting the need for improved strategies to balance heritage preservation with modern hotel functionality. These insights aim to guide future adaptive reuse projects, ensuring better alignment with UNESCO standards while maintaining cultural significance.
