Summary

Stakeholders in Gjirokastra, Albania, show strong interest in developing cheese tourism as part of the Cheese Road, a niche culinary tourism route. This study reveals that local inhabitants prioritize culinary experiences, particularly cheese-related ones, for tourism growth. Using descriptive statistics on questionnaire data, researchers identified both potential and obstacles to implementing this initiative. The findings highlight cheese tourism's significance in leveraging Gjirokastra's rich cultural and gastronomic heritage, offering a model for other UNESCO World Heritage Sites seeking sustainable culinary tourism development.
