Summary

A formal domain ontology, UrbanOnto, emerged as a promising tool for standardizing urban historical research, particularly when applied to old town maps. Developed using the Polish Database of Topographic Objects (BDOT) and integrated with CIDOC-CRM and OntoHGIS ontologies, UrbanOnto demonstrated its utility in interpreting historical sources, despite validation challenges that did not yield definitive results. This study highlights the potential for ontology-based approaches to enhance urban history research, offering a structured framework for future standardization efforts.
