Summary
The Stone Fountain in Kutná Hora underwent a recent restoration (2010–2011) that exacerbated its deterioration due to excessive cement repairs and acrylic coatings. This study assesses the long-term impact of these interventions, revealing significant damage to the underlying stone despite addressing deep salinity and material diversity. The research highlights the need for more cautious conservation strategies that balance structural integrity with preventive measures. By analyzing historical repairs—from 19th-century sandstone replacements to 20th-century interventions—the study underscores the unintended consequences of aggressive restoration methods on monumental heritage preservation.
