Summary
Excavations at the Heraion of Samos in 1980/1981 uncovered a monumental archic-era terrace, approximately 40 meters long and rising about one meter above the terrain, located east of the sacred precinct near the holy road. This structure, composed of two parts—a terrace and an adjacent four-chambered building—was adorned with eight segmental moldings bearing colorful depictions. While the terrace's reconstruction is largely possible due to preserved remnants, including two staircases, the intended appearance and completion of the building remain uncertain, as only its foundations survive. The study highlights the significance of this discovery in understanding the architectural and artistic sophistication of ancient Samos.
