Summary
A comprehensive survey of amphibians and reptiles in Komodo National Park and its surrounding areas reveals 26 species, including seven amphibians and 19 reptiles, with the highest diversity observed on Rinca Island. The study, conducted using Visual Encounter Surveys and glue traps across six locations in 2018, found strong community similarity between Komodo and Rinca Islands (IS = 0.8). Additionally, a checklist of 43 species was compiled for the three main islands of the park, expanding our understanding of herpetofauna diversity in this UNESCO World Heritage Site. The research highlights Loh Buaya on Rinca Island as a hotspot for biodiversity, with the highest recorded diversity (H’ = 2.14) and evenness (E=0.58).
