Summary
Ukrainian wooden churches’ log-towers exhibit five distinct volume structures—lateral trapeze, pyramidal, 'zalom' tiered, octagon-on-square, and composite—that have no complete global analogies. While some archaic forms (e.g., lateral trapeze, pyramidal) share regional parallels in the Carpathians, Transcaucasia, and Russia, the 'zalom' tiered structure is uniquely Ukrainian. This study compares these structures with Eastern/Western religious architectures (pagodas, Scandinavian churches) to highlight the independent evolution of Ukrainian sacral wooden traditions, underscoring their historical continuity and regional autonomy.
