Summary
Vulcano, one of the Aeolian Islands' volcanic islands, exhibits complex geological features shaped by variable tectonic and volcanic activity. The island's current structure includes two calderas, a lava dome complex, and two active cones, with the prominent La Fossa tuff cone dominating its 3-km-wide caldera. Recent unrest since 2021 has been marked by weak shallow seismicity and intense fumarolic activity, particularly within the La Fossa crater. This study reviews Vulcano's tectonic, volcanological history, and associated hazards, highlighting its dynamic nature and the importance of multiparametric monitoring for understanding volcanic behavior.
