Summary

Researchers have identified a new species of Elachistocleis frog within the Brazilian Pantanal, distinguished by unique morphological traits such as its medium to large size (26.9–40.3 mm), grayish dorsum with white dots and an elongated dark spot, and cream-colored markings on limbs and venter. This discovery highlights the biodiversity significance of the Corumbá protected area in Mato Grosso do Sul, where four species of Oval frogs now reside. The study underscores the need for further field investigations in the Maciço do Urucum to assess herpetofauna diversity in this critical region.
