Evaluating the Relationship between National Park Management and Local Communities’ Perceptions Based on Survey, a Case of Nyungwe National Park, Rwanda

A survey of residents near Nyungwe National Park, Rwanda, revealed that while local communities generally support conservation and tourism efforts, they face challenges such as weak mobilization and conflict resolution. The study found positive attitudes toward participation in conservation organizations and tourism activities, particularly due to perceived employment opportunities. However, residents called for stronger government investment, stakeholder involvement, and a role in planning processes to enhance economic development. The research suggests that integrated coordination mechanisms and conservation-development projects could foster sustainable management, benefiting both the park and the broader region.
