Summary
A novel risk-management framework for contemporary public art has been developed, integrating it into broader disaster risk management (DRM) strategies to enhance resilience in historic urban centers. The study identifies key challenges and opportunities for incorporating public art—such as those in San Gimignano’s UNESCO-listed Historic Centre—into conservation plans, while addressing physical, contextual, and managerial vulnerabilities. Using case studies from cultural initiatives like Affinità Elettive and UmoCA, the research introduces indicators and criteria for vulnerability assessment, emphasizing the role of social, cultural, and economic processes in heritage protection. The proposed model aligns with international policies and could be adapted for similar sites worldwide.
