Summary
A study of the coastal herb Lysimachia mauritiana on Amamioshima, Kakeromajima, and Tokunoshima Islands in Japan's Ryukyu Archipelago revealed significant intraspecific karyotypic diversity, with 15 cytotypes identified across five chromosome numbers (2n=16, 17, 18, 19, 20). Each locality hosted multiple cytotypes, suggesting dynamic evolutionary processes. Amamioshima and Tokunoshima showed distinct dominant cytotypes (16(6m) and 18(6m), respectively), while Kakeromajima lacked the 16(6m) cytotype. The research combined karyomorphological and cytogeographical analyses of 452 individuals from 27 sites, indicating potential future convergence of cytotypes in Amamioshima's northeast region.
