Summary

Nearly one-third (27.6%) of the native flora in Chile's Arica-Parinacota and Tarapacá regions is threatened, with 34.4% at risk in Arica-Parinacota alone—higher than in neighboring regions. This alarming rate stems from restricted geographic distributions and habitat degradation, as revealed by a comprehensive analysis of 717 vascular species using IUCN criteria. The study highlights the urgent need for localized conservation measures to mitigate biodiversity loss in these UNESCO-listed areas.
