Summary

Marian devotion played a significant role in the medieval Camino de Santiago, closely intertwined with Jacobean tradition and influenced by both the Mariological trends of Thomas Aquinas and the Hispanic–Mozarabic rite. This study reveals that Marian advocacies, such as Virgen Peregrina and Virgen del Camino, emerged as spiritual manifestations along the pilgrimage route to Compostela, creating a unique spiritual climate that shaped early Compostela pilgrimages. The research synthesizes theological foundations with historical evidence to explore how Marian devotion evolved alongside the Camino de Santiago, offering insights into its cultural and religious significance during the Middle Ages.
