Summary

Macro-crustacean assemblages on Jangbong Tidal Flat, Incheon, Korea, exhibit distinct seasonal variation, with two primary species groups dominating different times of the year. Winter (December–April) is characterized by palaemonid and crangonid shrimps, while spring, summer, and autumn see higher abundances of portunid crabs and penaeid shrimps. The study, conducted from November 1999 to January 2001 using a modified otter trawl, identified 32 species totaling 7,741 individuals and 29,211.3 gWWt, with three shrimp species (Palaemon carinicauda, Crangon affinis, Metapenaeus joyneri) and two crab species (Charybdis japonica, Portunus trituberculatus) numerically dominant. Clustering analysis confirmed seasonal shifts in tidal flat usage by these crustaceans, highlighting temporal patterns critical for understanding coastal ecosystem dynamics.
