Summary
A six-layer framework integrating satellite monitoring, GPS/GNSS positioning, hybrid communication systems, and cybersecurity measures has been developed to address challenges in mountain tourism, such as limited accessibility and poor communication. This secure smart mountain tourism system aims to support sustainable tourism and local economic growth, particularly in complex terrains like the Shahdag–Qusar–Khinalig area in northeastern Azerbaijan. The framework combines open satellite data, elevation data, tourism data, and printed coverage details to enhance safety and security, while also mitigating risks associated with digitalization without adequate protection. The study highlights the importance of cybersecurity in safeguarding location data, bespoke platforms, and IoT wearables, which are crucial for the success of smart mountain tourism initiatives.
