Summary

A landscape optimization scheme for the Xianghe Segment of China’s Grand Canal (XSCGC) has been developed to enhance ecological security and aesthetic appeal amid urbanization. The approach, rooted in landsenses ecology, introduces a spatial configuration featuring key elements like 'one point, one axis, two cores, multicorridors, and multidemonstrations.' This design aims to mitigate the ecological barrier effects caused by urban infrastructure while strengthening connections between landscape units. The plan area is divided into 11 ecological function zones for targeted management, protection, and development. Seven ecological control indices are proposed to ensure long-term ecological security. This strategy offers a blueprint for balancing socio-economic growth with environmental sustainability in the XSCGC region.
