Summary

Local women social entrepreneurs in Zanzibar are effectively addressing poverty through innovative strategies that build educational opportunities, adapt to economic changes, and empower vulnerable populations. A qualitative study interviewing 15 women from rural Jambiani and urban Stone Town reveals their ventures' success in alleviating poverty by focusing on human capital development, business evolution, and social empowerment, including for people with disabilities. These findings highlight the potential of local initiatives to drive community sustainability when supported by social workers.
