Summary
A critical gap in historical knowledge about the Jesuit missions in Córdoba, Argentina, has been addressed by identifying and documenting nearly 120 years of Jesuit figures associated with the Alta Gracia estate. This research sheds light on a previously overlooked aspect of the region's history, revealing the biographies of Jesuits who administered or perished at the estate between its founding in 1643 and its transformation into a thriving city. The study also highlights the significant presence of enslaved Africans and Afro-Americans, constituting the majority of the early population. By compiling a biobibliography from archival sources, the research provides a foundational resource for understanding the social and religious dynamics of this UNESCO World Heritage Site.
