Summary
A comprehensive annotated checklist identifies 104 millipede species in Sri Lanka, with 82 endemic to the island and nine genera plus one family unique to Sri Lanka. The study synthesizes taxonomic data from 1865 to present, revealing a high concentration of diversity in the central highlands, particularly at Pundaluoya and Kandy. While this work advances baseline knowledge, significant gaps remain in understanding millipede taxonomy, evolution, distribution, and conservation status in Sri Lanka. The authors call for intensified surveys to fill these knowledge gaps and provide a foundation for future research on this understudied group.
