Summary

Ancient petroglyphs in Saryarka, Kazakhstan's vast steppes, serve as both sacred landmarks and navigational guides for nomadic herders. These figurative monuments, found on rocky outcrops and riverbanks, act as 'lighthouses' in the open landscape, marking key pastures and directions. The study identifies 27 such sites within the Karaganda region, highlighting their cultural significance through myths and legends. Research focuses on integrated analysis, classification, and documentation of these petroglyphs, which reflect pre-literate societies' knowledge and communication methods. The findings underscore their role in preserving historical narratives and navigational traditions.
