Diversity of termites (Blattodea latreille, 1810) and their damage in the royal court of huts of tiebele and surrounding areas in Burkina Faso

A comparative study of termite diversity in the Royal Court of Tiébélé, Burkina Faso, revealed that 93.5% of the 77 huts examined were affected by termite damage, with varying intensities. The research identified five species belonging to three subfamilies (Macrotermitinae, Termitinae, and Nasutermitinae) and five genera, indicating a significant impact on the royal court's wooden structures. Termites were found to originate from nearby wood transport areas, suggesting potential for localized control strategies. The study employed standard belt transect methods and systematic searches across three ecosystems—royal court huts, Khaya senegalensis reserve, and an agricultural zone—to assess termite diversity and their entry into the huts.
