Claude-Nicolas Ledoux ve Le Corbusier’in İdeal Kent Arayışları ve İşçi Yerleşkeleri: Saline Royale ve Cité Frugés Tasarımları

2023 — Article — WHEB6B0038335

This study reveals a historical continuity in architectural ideals for urban and social living, comparing the worker settlements designed by Claude-Nicolas Ledoux (18th century) and Le Corbusier (20th century). Despite being separated by two centuries, both architects aimed to create ideal urban spaces through their designs: Ledoux's Saline Royale d'Arc-et-Senans and Le Corbusier's Cité Frugés de Passac. The analysis highlights how differing technological, economic, and social conditions of their eras shaped these settlements' layouts, construction techniques, public and private space designs, and social amenities. These differences reflect broader shifts in production systems, political structures, and societal values, while underscoring the enduring pursuit of utopian urban ideals in architecture.

Françoise Choay em Arc et Senans

2023 — Article — WHE5E046C8256

Françoise Choay's contributions to urban morphology and historiography are highlighted through her participation in the 1985 Seminar 'Morphologie urbaine et parcellaire' at Arc-et-Senans, a UNESCO World Heritage Site designed by Ledoux. Her work, particularly in 'La règle et le modèle' (1980) and 'L'Urbanisme: Utopies et Réalités' (1965), offers a critique of urban morphology that remains relevant today. The study compares her insights with contemporary research from the International Seminar on Urban Form (ISUF) and the Portuguese Network of Urban Morphology (PNUM). Choay's dedication to etymology and her interdisciplinary approach, blending architecture, philosophy, and historiography, provide a unique lens for understanding urban development and its theoretical foundations.
