Summary

Researchers have identified two new species of scorpions within the genus Buthus from Jordan's Wadi Rum Protected Area. The study distinguishes Buthus amri by its smaller size, fewer pectinal teeth, unique chela finger granulation (9–10 rows), and dense setation on pedipalps, metasomal segments, and telson. Additionally, the subspecies Buthus occitanus mardochei var. israelis, previously recognized as a variant, is elevated to species status based on morphological and geographical criteria. The findings rely on detailed morphological analysis, contributing to the taxonomic understanding of scorpions in the Middle East.
