Summary

LiDAR technology offers a powerful tool for assessing the structural health of historical buildings, particularly in detecting anomalies such as out-of-plumb walls and signs of collapse. A recent study applied LiDAR data analysis to the Baths-Church at Hierapolis-Pamukkale, revealing high-accuracy models capable of identifying block layouts, cracks, and rotational mechanisms. These models facilitate both visual analysis and advanced computational assessments like Finite Elements (FE) and Discrete Elements (DE) analysis. The research demonstrates that LiDAR-derived orthophotos and mesh models can enhance conservation efforts by providing detailed geometric data without the need for on-site inspections.
