Summary
A groundbreaking analysis of ancient wine trade in the Tarraconensis region reveals how new amphora types, such as Pascual 1 and Dressel 3-2, reshaped Mediterranean commercial networks during the 1st century BCE to 1st century CE. Using a comprehensive dataset of over 14,000 amphorae from more than 700 sites, researchers mapped trade routes, production adaptations, and redistributive economic patterns, highlighting the region's resilience amid shifting economic demands. This study not only reconstructs logistical innovations in wine commercialization but also sheds light on how social and economic needs drove the emergence of complex trade systems in antiquity.
