Summary
A significant discovery regarding the restoration of Cistercian worship during the Counter-Reformation emerges from this study, focusing on the Church of Women within the lower domestic quarters (domus inferior) of Campanian charters. The research reveals how architectural and religious practices evolved in response to the Counter-Reformation's emphasis on female monasticism, providing new insights into the spatial organization and symbolic significance of these spaces. Conducted as part of a master's thesis at the University of Naples Federico II, the study employed detailed architectural surveys and historical analysis to reconstruct the liturgical and social dynamics of the Certosa di San Lorenzo di Padula. The findings underscore the importance of integrating archival research with spatial documentation to understand the complex interplay between religious reform and architectural adaptation.
