Summary

A multidisciplinary investigation of the Temple of Athena in Poseidonia-Paestum, Italy, has uncovered new geomorphological and stratigraphic insights, as well as evidence of ancient structures beneath the temple. Using a combination of remote sensing, electromagnetic and geoelectrical tests, sedimentological analyses, and archaeological surveys, researchers identified subsurface anomalies likely corresponding to ancient constructions and travertine cuttings around the temple. The study also clarified the locations and extent of early excavation trenches, providing a more precise understanding of the site's history and layout.
