Summary

A thousand poetic graffiti, etched by medieval visitors between the 8th and 10th centuries on Sigiriya's ancient rock face, offer a rare glimpse into cultural practices of the past. These inscriptions, studied and transcribed by epigraphist Senarat Paranavitana, provide invaluable insights into the site's history. However, his interpretation included imaginary interlinear readings from other surfaces, which he used to support his theories about Sigiriya's evolution.
