Summary
A comprehensive survey of phytoplankton in Ranthambhore Fort's aquatic habitats, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and renowned tiger reserve in Rajasthan, identified 69 algal species across four divisions (Cyanophyta, Chlorophyta, Euglenophyta, Chrysophyta/Bacillariophyta) and nine orders. This study highlights the ecological significance of phytoplankton as indicators for water quality assessment, with findings suggesting a diverse but potentially vulnerable aquatic ecosystem. The research employed systematic sampling to analyze organic and inorganic contamination markers, contributing valuable data for conservation efforts in this critical biosphere. Such insights are essential for monitoring lentic water bodies under anthropogenic pressure.
